Frequently Asked Questions

Our customers ask great questions. We want to share some of them with you.

Trash Removal Questions

What can I put in my dumpster?
Most things can go in your dumpster. They should be things that crunch up easily. Sorry, no liquids, hazardous waste, car tires/batteries, freon appliances, animal carcasses/waste, or large pieces of wood or metal. We can make special arrangements for some of these items. We also require special arrangements for earthly materials like dirt, sand, ashes, and gravel.

What happens if I have items for disposal outside my dumpster?
Our drivers don’t want to take your treasures. To be sure, call us prior to pickup. We’ll let the driver know to be expecting the additional items and discuss with you any extra charges you might incur.

What do I do if I need extra emptying of my dumpster?
Just give us a call. We will be happy to put an additional emptying on our schedule and tell you what extra charges you will incur. If you find that you are frequently scheduling extra emptyings, it may be more economical to upgrade your dumpster size or emptying frequency. We will gladly help you choose your most economical option.

What happens if my dumpster is blocked at the time of my pickup?
In an effort to continue to keep your costs down, we sincerely request that you make sure we have easy access to your dumpster on your pickup day. As you know, our trucks and drivers are very efficient. They can connect to your dumpster, empty it and be on to the next customer in a very short timeframe. They are not instructed to wait while vehicles or other things blocking access are moved.

Can bad weather cause my service to be disrupted?
There have been very few times in our 19 years where weather conditions have made it impossible to provide service. To avoid possible damage to your property and ensure everyone’s safety, the owners and our drivers use their best judgement regarding accessing your location. Of course regular service will resume at your next scheduled day.

Can I put my remodeling and construction debris in my regular dumpster?
Of course. Simply call us to let us know the type of compactable materials your dumpster will contain. This way we can be sure to use the right equipment to accommodate it. Keep in mind there is different pricing for construction and demolition materials.

How can I get rid of old paint cans?
Most likely, we can take them away for you. The trick is to make sure the paint inside is entirely dry. Then, you can just put them out with your regular trash. The EPA does not allow us to haul liquids, but as long as the paint is dry, no problem.

I'll be doing Spring cleaning. Can I get my extra stuff picked up?
Absolutely. Just put them out with your regular pickup. For especially large quantities of extra items or large items like furniture and mattresses, please call us ahead of time. We’ll be sure to send the right equipment to get it picked up.

Can I get vacation credit?
Certainly! Just suspend your service in advance and we won’t charge you for the time away. Remember, if you are moving away or need to cancel for any reason please call to avoid further charges.

Pumping Questions

Why regular pumping? A friend hasn't pumped in 20 years and has no problems.
While some homeowners claim they have never had problems and never had to be pumped out, they are slowly damaging the drainfield. The purpose of the septic tank is to hold the solids. The purpose of the drainfield is to distribute the liquid evenly for the ground to absorb and treat. When a septic tank is used for years and years without being pumped out, the solids build up to a point where the tank can no longer hold it all. The solids now begin to flow out of the tank to the drainfield. This clogs the rock, stone & sand that are meant to distribute the liquid. It doesn't happen over night, but the damage is being done. When that homeowner finally calls and says "It's time to have my septic tank pumped", it's usually too late.

What can make my system fail?
If the amount of wastewater entering the system is more than the system can handle, the wastewater backs up into the house or yard and creates a health hazard. You can suspect a system failure not only when a foul odor is emitted but also when partially treated wastewater flows up to the ground surface. By the time you can smell or see a problem, however, the damage might already be done. By limiting water use, you can reduce the amount of wastewater you system must treat. When you have your system inspected and pumped as needed, you reduce the chance of system failure. A system installed in unsuitable soils can also fail. Other failure risks include tanks that inaccessible for maintenance, drainfields that are paved or parked on and tree roots or defective components that interfere with the treatment process.

How can I tell if my system is failing?
The most obvious septic system failures are easy to spot. Check for pooling water or muddy soil around your septic system or in your basement. Notice whether your toilet or sink backs up when you flush or do laundry. You might also notice strips of bright green grass over the drainfield. Septic systems also fail when partially treated wastewater comes into contact with ground water. This type of failure is not easy to detect, but it can result in the pollution of wells, nearby streams or other bodies of water.

What additive should I use?
Additives don't do any good-or, at least, no controlled scientific study has shown them to be effective. So, save your money.
